twin freaks : coming up

Paul-McCartney-Twin-Freaks-326378

way back in 2005 before dance music was all about stressed out casio keyboard presets and compressed noise, paul mccartney allowed his tour dj, freelance hellraiser, to have access to his back catalogue and come up with a sample heavy dance orientated make over.

the results were then played prior to gigs to get the crowd ready for the action.

then for reasons known only to paul and a few people inside emi, the tracks were pressed up on limited edition vinyl under the alias twin freaks and released into the wild.

of course, given the source material it comes as no surprise to find that a lot of the results hang off a hazy dance loop, pianos, some recognisable vocals, and 70s radio friendly productions.

the addition of freelance hellraiser to the proceedings may add a modern synthetic sheen that may have shocked fans of the man, but on the whole the music retains the organic grooves of the source, and in some cases propels the funk to the fore and takes the track into a whole new league of spine tingling excellence.

despite the fact that bootlegs are now no longer the tour de force they once were, i still happen to think this album is an excellent experiment, and just so happens to be a very enjoyable listen.

i mean who can’t resist the following combination : the orb vs screamadelica vs paul maccartney

so, just cos it is one most people will know of, here is a stone classic in revised form.

headphones on. volume up.
