mungolian jetset – we gave it all away ..

quite simply, in recent times i have become somewhat obsessed with this massive sprawling 2 cd set that was released at the end of 2009 by norways label of choice, smalltown supersound.

it’s like the creators of this album, (and no i am not going to try and decipher the psyched out mess of backstory nor the 6th form-esque pseudos), have scoured the ireallylovemusic archives, taken notes, and crafted a made to measure album aimed squarely at making me go all gooey with delight.

while the album is in all fairness a mixture of revised versions of various 12″ remixes that have appeared in different forms elsewhere for those that keep their ear to the blogosphere wire, and a set of new productions, the spread of styles is both a challenge to the weak spirited, and an eye watering case of brilliance for those of us who like dance pop music that has a twisted funny bone.

let’s throw together a quick-n-easy checklist : yello cut up vocal weirdness. plastic prince r-n-b. the orb ambience. all matched by the lindstrom (who not only shares label duties, but appears in the mix)  styled epic-ness of the throbs-n-beats production.

during the first few listens, i can assure you, the vocals in parts will have you shouting ”please stop that now before i hit the eject button’, however, by the forth listen, you will be genuinely looking forward to their appearance as their interaction with the groove heavy quirks become an integral part of the sonic adventurism.

modern psychedelic electronic music with an ear to ear grin and an eye on the dance floor.
