the buddy rich big band – big mama cass

where the hell have i been ?

spinning this cd on a constant loop in the player that’s where.

for the last few weeks any resemblance of 80s electro (original or revival), 90s indie, crusty industrial dub, noughties whatever, has been banished while i pretend to be a part of the rat pack and expose ireallylovemusic hq to the excessiveness of big band jazz that hard assed drummer buddy rich kicked into touch back in the day.

the sheer might of the drums, the power of the horn section, the rolling bass lines, the overall sound that the band laid down on this recording never ceases to amaze me.

quite simply this track lifted from the 1968 live album, mercy mercy (the title track of which is a cover of a track made famous by cannonball adderley and produced by david axelrod – see those dots and join them up), kills all opponents.

surely the beat-n-horn riff has been sampled by now ?

so i suggest you hit the spot, and give the drummer some.
