having had a cracking year in 2008 with the launch of their own record label, rockers revolt, and the release of several excellent albums by such folks as ed rome and mungos hi-fi, the label bosses, pama international, are back into swing with a welcome dose of positive action.
having heard and read about the rise of knife crime amongst the young, the band have taken it on board to raise the profile of this issue, and put their money where their mouth is. pama international are donating proceeds from the release of this mini-lp into a number of children’s charities that provide advice, guidance and support, as well as running various workshops and performing special under 18 gigs.
all well and good, so what about the music ?
the central focal point of this mini-lp is the hijacking of the excellent highrise track from the bands album, love filled dub album, last year.
the track forms the rhythm and basis throughout side one, starting out with the original michie one version, before the groove then drifts into a set of revisions and enjoyable extras in which appearances by dennis alcapone, and even billy bragg drop their own verbal treats over the bubbling skank, and wrongtom and mungos hi-fi dub things up for that full on festival reggae vibe.
glorious and worthy of entry price alone.
however, as a bonus, the flip features new tracks, no more guns, love is easy, again featuring dennis alcapone, and do they ever wonder featuring jimmy screech, as well as instrumentals and a melodica infused dub by g.corp, all of which flows into one 17 minute slice of reggae gorgeousness.
clearly the well connected pama international gang have been flexing their contact book, and have stretched out the hand of friendship to those who wish to stand alongside such honourable intentions, so its great to report that the music is as fantastic as it is. if you have seen the band live (highly recommended), then you will know that this lot really know how to (lovers) rock the house, and this is a cracking way to fill in the gap prior to the kick off of this years festival season.
