the current ireallylovemusic non-groove

the blog has gone quiet hasn’t it.

sorry about that, but i have my reason(s).

mainly in the form that anything with guitars/vocals etc really hurts my head.

i am sure this extended period of head pains is a stress related situation given that the place i spend my working hours is currently going through a period of turmoil, that and ireallylovemusic hq is once again enjoying the trials and tribulations of a partial facelift, something that always induces extra pressure on my time starved days, all of which means i am not overly concerned and confident that normality will be resumed once the dust has settled.

however, this does mean that the pile of spiky electro based noises, indie chancers and suchlike have been left somewhat unloved.

in fact, if i drop in today’s play list you may just get what’s going on :

the ambient cookbook  (fax records).

4 cd compilation released back in 94 containing many of the highlights of the labels golden era.

still sounds absolutely perfect all these years on.

the whole traffic  (fax records)

one that i never really got back in 94, but today the combination of dr atmo and the basalt boys throbbing acid synths and drawn out ambience hit the spot.

electro harmonix  (fax records)

a fantastic combination of the talents of jonah sharp and testu inoue. a brilliant slice of ambient techno.

yagya – the rhythm of snow (force inc)

recently picked this up for a pound in a bin, purely due to the cover art and some memory that the record label force inc is one to watch out for.

when listening in the office it drifted over me, but today the bass heavy but gentle techno pulsations and textures sounded beautifully deep and very special.

underworld and gabriel yared : breaking and entering (soundtrack)

still working through this one. it’s a film score relying heavily on atmosphere and piano.

i fell asleep while this was oozing out of the soundsystem, so i guess that’s an indication as to the style. i think its more organic than the rest of the days choices with real orchestration and ‘proper’ instruments alongside the electronics of underworld.

so, now that you have seen the list, i think it’s quite clear as to what’s happening.

i understand that you are keen for news on the latest and greatest, and that i’m not meeting such demands, for which i can but apologise, but i think it’s apparent that this corner of the web aint going there for a while. instead i have to wait out this mood until my inner batteries are recharged and willing to appreciate new head rattling noise.

in the meantime, i’m going to be travelling down that time tunnel to ’94 again.

by all means join in, reissued copies of the ambient cookbook are readily available i believe, but be careful, if you pick the collection up, it could quite easily kickstart your own fax records obsession.
