back in january i wrote about how in 2008 i suspected that the year was going to be all about the rebirth of techno in the ireallylovemusic playlists.
well, the update is that the techno love continues apace.
minimal. detroit. bleep. acid. ambient. dub.
love it.
of course, many factors are part of the process, none more so than the availability of good stuff via the sales bins/second hand stores given the restricted budgets that have to be maintained in these cash starved times.
however, over the last few months, i have been somewhat lucky.
ok, the artists that have satiated these urges are not white hot blogsphere relevance, but recently such wonders as detroit beauty silent phase (stacey pullens alter ego released on transmat back in the mid 90s), superpitcher, luke slater (the brilliant fear and loathing volume 2 mix collection), and even the later stuff by sven vath (some really good stuff on the fire album) have really hit the spot.
one of the best of these recent ‘finds’ was picking up the vector lovers capsule for one album that was released on soma records back in 2005. the name was familiar to me as i had been fortunate to get my name on one of the 93 copies of his rather special graviton ep, and ever since i have been keen on hearing more.
as per the ep, the album is a gorgeous 12 track collection of crystal clear digital productions that caress and soothe, all while adding some bass heavy funk to your world. it’s mainly an instrumental affair however, there is one pointer to a fruitful electro-pop future via the lovely melodies and memory track.
basically, its a highly recommended album.
then last night i remembered that i had a vector lovers remix hidden away in the archive.
the original oxygen track by tim wright was released on his heavy hitting thirst album, that i gave some airtime last year, to which vector lovers have added a cold clinical vocoder loop, dirty acid riffs, and a welcome layer of menace before the track deviates into a hands in the air bleeped up rave beast.
while a totally different type of electronic noise than the album, it’s a cracking remix, and easily worthy of a click-n-go.
