harlem river drive
there is a lot of detailed history behind the release of this 1971 album that has not been on cd for a long time. in fact, it seems to be so important behind understanding why this album is held in such high regards (read the allmusic review: here), that i have decided for this release to just let the press release speak for itself.

as for my thoughts ? well, its a slice of rather fine 70's latino infused funk music with some classic breakbeats for the loopheads, PLENTY OF CHUNKED UP HORNS-N-SAX ACTION (THE OPENING OF 'IDLE HANDS' WHERE THE STEREO SEPARATION IN THE HORN PRODUCTION IS PURE DAVID AXELROD), SOULFULLY RICH HARMONIES, AND SOCIALLY HARD HITTING LYRICAL CONTENT. obviously the atmosphere is of its time and era. but when this album is hot is totally hot.
