tool shed - ep

from the genius that is graham '808 state' massey comes this very weird/interesting/scary/calming* 5 track ep.

with track names like 'nanana....', gobots, you know that graham is having fun with this release. so the natural home for this has to be manchesters twisted nerve. as i sure you have all heard some of the clean clinical electronic music graham has put his name to over the last 10+ years then i should advise that you dispel all preconceptions. this is wild stuff, incorporating all manner of real instrumentation and bizarre timescales. nearest genre would be fucked up improvised prog spacerock with a krautrock groove for the opening 'pazuzu', to the serene scary beauty of 'satellites are spinning' with conga drums, glockenspiel, gongs and enticing vocals, according to the credits this is a sun ra cover version, which i guess tells a lot. then there is my personal fave 'marbles' with its burundi dual drummerz beat/hammond organ overload clashing with an urgent boomtown rats guitar line, truly wonderful stuff, though i am sure that graham has indeed lost a few of the track titles objects.

admittedly this is a not an old school ravers voyage rediscovery, but someone who has a desire to delve into off-kilter melodies and nonlinear jazz riffs.

interesting stuff thats for sure.
