the bishops
this week 1-2-3-4 records released the
debut album by the bishops.
now i won’t beat around the bush, or waste time
with fancy words (as if !), but this album is a liam watson produced
effort, so you know whats going to happen as soon as the all too modern lazer
hits the bits-n-bumps.
extremely authentic sounding 60s beat group
rock-n-roll that would fit in perfectly on that radio show that comes on radio
2 before jonathan ross. somtimes the trio give it their alll with sunshine-n-harmony
rich melodies, and sometimes they do the full on garage thing with fuzzed up
production.
the songs are punchy, tight and have lots of toe
tapping, head shaking choruses with the twins that front the band often coming
on like a toughened up, new era, version of paul and john and countless other
brint-invasion bands that followed in the wake of the beatles.
of course as the world is chocca with revisionist bands at the moment, so
whether the band cross over to mass appeal level is debatable, but there’s
no denying that this concise listen (13 tracks - 32 minutes) is a fun little
album.
