science - 3 track demo

a five piece indie rock band with its origins from wales (vocalist rebecca, guitarist dewi), now firmly based within the big city.

the band is now fleshed out by matt jones (keybds), he of minuteman/ultrasound talent, stu maxwell (bass) and matt 'tookie' tooke (drums).

the demo comprises of three songs.

'you passed thu', 'oh i hide it well', 'sonic boom'.

'you passed thru' has moments of spine tingling excellence, there is something in the chord progression that is wonderful and grabs your attention fully.

rebecca's voice is matched well against the steady indie rock, matt jones background has obviously paid dividends as there is a depth in the overall sound with orchestral/keyboards qualities added. but, and this is the key factor, rebecca's voice carries a different tonality that hooks you in. in parts her vocals sound out of place and not quite correct, but it's that very thing that makes the songs special, and, if beth orton can do it ..

second track, 'oh i hide it well', unfortunately, does not have the x factor like the first track, but, is a fine song nonetheless, and final track 'sonic boom' (not a cover version of the superb tripping daisy track) starts off as a fairly normal guitar based pop song but then takes several left turns and ends up as a full on space rock epic of severe proportions and impresses a lot, i suspect that live this track is a killer, as the 4 minutes here could obviously extend into a 20 minute epic. excellent.

so, a new sound recalling various aspects of alt indie rock, but with a subtle twist of lemon added to the mix in the presence of rebecca's voice, which is often harmonised and backed up with matts own unique sounds as well as the excellent non-demo full rich band backing. bringing a whole new meaning to the phrase 'she blinded me with science'.

definitely one to watch out for.
