quit your dayjob - sweden we got a problem
a few years ago i became someone fascinated by the releases on swedish label bad taste records, ranging from the full on indie rock stylings of 'last days of april', the punked up monstrosity of the hard-ons to the edgy riffed up blues punk of danko jones the albums were always worthy of checking out and made me glad to be alive on many occasions. then things went kinda quiet, that is until this oddity dropped through the letter box. immediately you know that the record label have not gone off the boil with this barking mad 18 tracks in 30 minutes release. the three guys of the band are displayed on the cover in see through raincoats and weird beehive keeper hats and little else, lovely.
it's obvious that the band want you to know that they are mad. very. which may be a little to forced to be genuine, but then the music starts and all such doubt fritters away into the ether. old electronic synths squiggle and burp while jerky guitars do their early days devo thing while the guys sing in a pseudo wacky manner. in fact, there is a massive debt to the original ohio nerds to be paid, in regards to the vocal styles as well as the music on offer. several tracks are simplistic chants of a phrase (often verging on the downright disgusting 'sperms are germs') which is then echoed by the other guys in the band. the songs offer little deviation from this tried-n-tested formula, see 'manpower' and cities suck', 'i need a tourguide for my own head', it can become somewhat one dimensional. thankfully, they do their thing with such joyful glee, and, by dropping in the odd left of centre guitar lick, and aural treat things never become boring. ever.
not one for those of a nervous disposition, the album is a blast of fun, and given a few airings will have you chanting and howling along to such classics as 'she-male godzilla' (the only song to break the 2 minute mark - by a busting 5 seconds!), and the grin inducing 'pissing on a panda' with total abandon. just be careful not to do this while in company of people. any people.
