one inch punch - tao of the ..
this is fantastic. justin warfield (voice of the stoner classic 'bug powder dust') is the main name here and his attitude seeps through this short cd (35 mins). the sound is raw hip-hop grooves mixed with sonic youth/my bloody valentine guitars, almost like a rock rock version of tricky. very lo-fi - but not in that fey indie-bedroom lo-fi way but as in stretching the 8 tracks on the demo portastudio to the extreme. some tracks are straight up dark hip-hop and some are guitars songs on stun. the lyrics are a mixture of rapped lines with singing (sort of!), so even though this is a precise 35 minutes i cant recommend this high enough.
