jesse james - punk soul brothers

take punk rock guitars, add some excellently sequenced horns, a dash of fun, seriously sharp looking dudes in some top shirts - and you get jesse james, oh, add some extra horns for good measure. its been a long time since i heard a horn section used to such a vibrant beat, this is no 80's overproduced superfluous horn section but a integral heartbeat and soul to the bands persona.

fitting into the same feel and style as goldblade but with more accessible songs, catchy melodies and chorus's that really hit the central nervous system. the band aren't trying to convert the listeners - just give them a blast of horn-ified riffs and smiles.

several tracks make you reach for the brylcreem and attempt revive that long lost quiff, 'my favourite shirt', 'elephant', 'long time down' must surely get the fans on a pogoing frenzy, if the klubfoot revival ever happens then this lot could definitely provide the soundtrack.

there isn't much stylistic variety admittedly (though there are elements of a punk-ska in places - huzzah) and a couple of tracks are slightly weaker than the standout ones, but as the whole affair is over in 30 mins the band dont over stay their welcome.

'scuse me i'm off to dig out my old stax 7"ers, and find that buried ben sherman shirt.
