gluecifer - basement apes
what to say about this lot. Norwegian. not male models, not fresh out of any cool art school, band members work under various pseudonyms such as 'raldo useless','captain poon','biff malibu' etc and the name of lp is a not-so-subtle dig at a name of a bob dylan lp - this obviously is not to be taken too seriously.
but the music is serious.
noisy/brash/interesting/adrenalin pumping
taking the current demand for all thing garage, they take the basics and add extra twists the deeper you get into the album, such as melody, 70's style guitar solos, slow epics ('little man'), rabble rousing bass pumping crowd pleasers ('easy living')
the lot that anyone harking back to the era of denim clad rockers could demand.
the whole package kind of reminds me of the stranglers during the punk era . ie another band who had been round the pub circuit several times and who knew how to construct excellent songs, yet had a lot more musical ability than the current cool scene demanded and exploited the narrow genre limits to the bands advantage.
if this lot came from nyc ten they would have been front cover of nme by now.
this lot are having a lot of fun - i suggest you join in.
bloody fantastic.
