bronze age fox - the sunshine made the desert
10 inches. 4 track. heavy cardboard cover. white vinyl.
is this an ep. or a modern piece of art.
bronze age fox is a spinoff project featuring minotaur shock one of the melodic labels artists that i know i should investigate more. and if you had a chance to get your mits on this slice of aural pleasure i think you would understand why i now want to hear more from these guys.
the basis of these gorgeous songs is melody. melody. melody oozes from each track. easy listening wrappd up in leftfield pop music. guitars are strummed and plucked, basslines are warm and comforting, and drums/loops are apparent but not overstated. listen carefully though and you'll hear subtle deviations from the norm that add elements of sheer joy and splendour, strange sounds, twisted effect pedals - but not in a cold clinical techno manner but in a soulful, blissful way. even the singing is sweet and calming, and a far cry from the current in yer face - full on vocals that todays bands excel in. these are songs your granny would gladly allow to be played while she visits on a sunday. but, be assured that these songs carry far more emotional/sonic impact than perry como.
i have lived with this ep now for several months and along with the recent sancha panza 7" this ep is one of the reasons i purchased a damn fine record deck. i dont regret a single penny.
bristol is predominantly known for its spearheadin of the genre that killed itself off as soon as it got tagged but this is as far removed from the media unfriendly triphop as is possible. and for that we should all herald the new sound of bristol.
