well i never. appearing out of nowhere, well putney, and recorded in nashville apparently ! this new album on the world dominating domino records, is an absolute cracker.
dirty, grotty swamp filled blues rock that really hits home. the phrase, 'shake ye hips' is proclaimed on the drum, and fuck me, if you don't start feeling the primal punked up simplistic double guitar groove within the opening riffs of 'cherry lips', (a style that is revisited in several places across the album, but never becomes tiresome!) then you may as well check in with the undertakers.
awesome stuff, that is both darkly enticing, rich in detail, while maintaining a direct rawness. such is the atmosphere induced, that if they ever remake/rescore the classic noir horror thriller 'the wicker man' then i can think of no other band to provide the soundtrack.
basically, if there were one guitar based album in recent times that you should check out - this is easily it.
