skalpel - break out
12" single featuring results from the bands remix competition
recently polish duo opened up their samplecentric sounds to be remixed by all and sundry. the competition was dubbed 'pol ipod'. now, record label ninjatune have decided to drop the best results onto proper vinyl and everything, along with a new remix by 'the amalgamation of soundz' and skalpel themselves. the remixes never veer far from the original downtempo jazzy grooves of the bands debut making this a lovely add-on extra.
there are ambient laid back smooth vibes by the soundz crew, jazz drum breaks added by skalpel, and the wonderfully epic moods by overall winner backini (didn't they once have an album out ??) making me want to use the 'c' word - cinematic - as it is indeed rather special. next up is ninjatunes forum regular dr rubberfunk adding his own particular brand of jazz'd up basslines, organ madness and wah wah extremities. the man lives for the funk. god bless him. then to finish things off there is more loose percussion and wobbly stand up double bass samples echoed all over the place for paradowski's remix. proving that the world has changed for the better, with modern music making techno toys available via any broadband connection now allowing people to realise their talents like never before.
