one self - be your own

new soul/funk venture for the instrumental hip hop producer dj vadim featuring yarah bravo (who sounds a lot like what what from the early herbaliser releases) and blu rum 12 on vocals. the track is a spiced up soul-funk groove with hip hop vocals and a disjointed beat, that stops and starts in a manner that is initially annoying which becomes more compelling as its the uniqueness of the jump-start of the beat that keeps you on edge. by the 3rd or 4th listen you too will have trouble shifting the high pitched vocal echo'd loop from spinning round your head, making this not an easy radio friendly banger to be sure, but a track that will definitely make you want to hear the forthcoming album. the single comes in a variety of mixes of course, with amp fiddler adding his george clinton synths and piano-centric nu-soul to the brew, but for me the highlight is the drawn out dubbed up epic by vadim himself -  an absolutely fantastic 6 minutes where vadim adds spaced out sonics and dubbed up extras all while maintaining the weird freaky melody line.

good stuff.
