mr scruff - mrscruff

first things first - i love the whole mr scruff look and feel, his website is ace, and his recent solid steel set was mighty fine, but, when it comes to his solo stuff i have never felt the fun(k) to the degree that i feel i should. so i will tell you what this album is all about and leave the rest to you..

basically this is a reissue of mr scruff's early 12" releases that came out on pleasure records in the mid to late 90's. the tracks have all been remastered to bring them out of their lo-fi shell and includes a couple of unreleased nuggets for the hardcore.

the premise of most of the sounds on offer is the same - a nice laid back beat, a little jazzy loop here and there, and some fun samples thrown in here and there and little else really. nothing overly serious or revolutionary makes the album stand out, however, in some places he does creates a nice vibe, for example, opening 'sea mammal' has some excellent dubbed up excess going on, and 'crisps' is a happy groove. but overall the album doesn't do anything that a dig in my old mo'wax archives wouldn't achieve.

one for the fans.
