ammoncontact - with voices

i will be the first to admit that ammoncontact previous outings on ninjatune have not really done much for me, the production and styles have all been beautifully executed, but something always came across as a little too dry and therefore has meant that i have rarely the urge to dig them out of the archive, however, this time around things work far far better.

maybe, this is due to the fact that the duo have pulled in favours and collaborated with all manner of wordsmiths thus providing the albums title, and even a couple of whizzkid turntable monsters (cut chemist and daedelus). so thrown into the mix of tripped out hip hop grooves, flutes, live action instrumentals, are such knowns as prince po, yuseef lateef, mia doi todd, lil sci and many others whose names mean little to me. the wide variety of guests may make you gasp and get somewhat concerned that this makes for an unbalanced album. well let me put that negativity to rest. the flow is smooth and rather damn fine, i even began to feel the jazz fuelled extras that they just couldn't resist totally. so this time around, ammoncontact have constructed a 16 track collection that is a far more focused set of straight up hip hop tracks with deep and thoughtful positive vibes, with a constantly invigorating production to keep the ears on alert even at the most laid back moments, whether it involves freaky  sampled drum loops mashing with modern midi controlled machines, 'elevation', the sublime melancholic'd up violin trip hop revival of 'earths children', or the fantastic skanked up reggae funk of the title track (you just have to hear this one !), or the media friendly turntable cut ups by cut chemist on 'drum riders' (headphones a must), this is by far one of the best hip hop based albums i have come across recently.
