pete voss from campag velocet spreads the word ..

'i've been around, knocked down, now i'm back again' ( opening words to album highlight "motown clic..."), that's obviously a painful indicator of the intervening 'lost' years, what have you been up to since we last heard from you ?

listening to the Murderdolls soundtrack while picking up a great new sponsorship deal from Hello Kitty femi-wipes.

why did you feel the urge to get back into the sea with the sharks after all this time? do you like the pain ?

No, but we had a yellow& black album and we wanted to put it out.

how did you manage to get all the others in the band together - did anyone need any coaxing/blackmailing to get onboard ?

Yeah they all needed coaxing. Now we’re getting great reviews, so much support from fans on harshsharks.com and the live shows are mental, they’re back into it

you were a big hype band before, the rush to the nme cover etc, in retrospect was this a mistake, or a bloody good time was had by all ?

All hype is good and a bloody good time was had by all.

how will the second coming differ?

I don’t know until it comes

do you think the 1st CV lp was misjudged given recent musical styles that have resurfaced from the depths of uncool?

Erm, I don’t know

do you hold grudges against those who were harsh towards the band and therefore have a hitlist of people to prove your worth to ?

It’s ok. All of those magazines have folded anyway

do you reckon your music will be given a fair chance or will the stigma of previous times be be a negative force in the worlds acceptance of the new stuff ?

I haven’t noticed any stigma. Press has been good and punters are up for it

2 things about Campag velocet  are connected with leeds noisters Age of Chance. one is tDR covers and the other is Cycle Gear. were you aware of these connections ? was it intentional or just me reading too much into stuff. what was the cycle gear all about ?

don’t know anything about age of chance. My mum & dad were into cycling in a big way. I’ve been riding road race bikes for years & used to race BMX

.. tell me about the cover art .. i feel a little uncomfortable with the skateboard kid picture .. why tDR again ?

Saw a documentary when I was young about the skateboard kid. He lived in the states and had no legs from the waist down, a complication since birth, yet he still got around using the skateboard, did his mums shopping on it etc, had a good attitude and a quarter pipe in his back garden. I was impressed by his resilience.

the new album sounds very current  (eg the honking sax on Trumping Men is very much in line with the new !!! post-punk vibes) - do you listen to the new stuff that is getting attention from the non-existent fashion mags ?

No I don’t keep up with fashion, I’m not on it. We are headlining a gig at The 100 Club featuring the said bands so I’ll hear them then.

biting lyrics combined with sharp grooves - are you a happy man Pete ?

Sometimes

there sounds to be a lot of anger hidden in the words eg Vindictive Disco .. is this close to home ? or do you slip into a Slim Shady type of alter-ego universe ?

Sometimes I slip into my imagination. Vindictive Disco is about going out, getting chucked down the stairs, cutting your knees on the broken glass, still rain, sleep without dreams. Its an ’out of it’ thing. Its an angry celebration.

you seem to have a certain passion for sly digs towards designer label chic. wassat all about then ?

It’s not about designer label chic, it’s about being stuck in a culture stereotype

And lastly ..

Will it be another stone roses time drift before we see the next chapter?

 Time will tell

new album out soon on pointy records. its ace :  review
