distraction records sampler
aka 'prise yourself loose and listen' this 9 track sampler from newcastle upon tyne label featuring tracks from assorted styles is a very pleasant disc.
there's the electronic orbital-trance-ambience of synthetic ('tori' and 'tori dub'), the lo-fi sweetness from black flower and 'see my sound', collide with the dark beats and vocal cutup samples of tears of abraham 'angel vox','beautiful', which comes over as a long lost cousin of early cabaret voltaire experiments.
there is a simple demo quality to all the tracks but despite this many of the tracks show promise.
if creation was still going then i can easily see alan mcgee being very interested in black flower as the two tracks provided are very reminiscent of ed balls sweet guitar pop songs.
a label to watch ? time will tell
