mystro - music mystro
following on the well received jehst album comes the next low life records hopeful. you have the choice of a 6 track vinyl ep or a fully loaded full length cd version.
with a strong vocal presence this is a fine addition to the imcreasingly impressive homegrown hiphop groove. while the cd dips in production values on the earlier tracks the new sounds are indeed pumped up party grooves. the musical backing is slim beats and minimal looped samples. sometimes working well with the call-response type vocals, especially 'music mystro', 'yeah!!', 'free the walls' being some obvious highlights. whereas other times, a little more sonic variety would be welcome, for example 'nutrition' gets a tad tiresome by 4th listen. but, hey this is the mans first album, i'm sure you will be seeing this man propelled into the hiphop headz collections.
mystro and his gang make several references to the attraction of the booze thus making a welcome lyrical change to the usual usa focus on non-prescription pills and/or the wicked weed, therefore making the appeal far more based upon the target audiences reality. fine stuff.
i have to admit i really enjoyed the overall attitude, the vocals, and the party fun (can i say 'free the walls' is excellent this late in the review ?) and look forward to more magic from the one called mystro.
