lunz - reinterpretation ep
damn. lost the pr sheet that tells all about the origins of the music on this lovely ep.
there is i believe some connection with a 70's ambient band called kluster and lunz, (i suspect hans-joachim roedelius !). oh well, to summarise - this ep features a set of new sonic revisions from all sorts of fine new noise creators.
first up is anticon hero alias, who adds a lovely scratchy beat to the beautiful piano lead melody of a track called 'clue', the mix of the laid back moods and the modern heavy beat feels awkward, but still very welcome. next we get faultline's epic electronica twists on 'lunz'. lots of familiar synth noises are surrounded by orbital styled arpeggios, until we get into the meat of the track when a steady groove builds up nicely which again is hooked onto a piano part. a very special track. far more interesting than the faultline album that features various indie heroes on vocal duties that's for sure.
next comes 2 untouched tracks, 'under mars we were' and 'akimbo', which are very much in line with the stuff that i overdosed on in 94 from pete namlook and his fax records output. in other worlds - a plethora of electronic noises which sustain their ambience for drawn out moments at a time, to then be layered over lots of classic analogue synth swooshing noises, filtered sounds and simple piano lines.
both are totally gorgeous.
finally we get to 'uferlose sea' which has been visited by my old mate minotaur shock. as ever dave edwards digs into his own personal collection of scratchy old beats, laptop enhanced acoustic guitars, and addictive hooklines and lets it all swirl around dominating the listeners' ambient surrounding for a few minutes.
