jehst - falling down
straight up uk hip-hop that deserves your attention.
no hype about this being made on dads pc while scoffing fish-n-chips, no cheesy pop music bootleg radio friendly crossover. instead, this is on the ball verbal rants over tight beats and smooth grooves.
having been on the scene for many a season jehst (aka high plains drifter) crafts this damn fine set of tracks. mixing deft wordplay to old school loops, featuring such djs as mr thing and dj iq amongst others of equal high standards. each listen reveals a deeper level of the lyrics, which fly fast and furiously at the listener from all angles, so this album is no quick easily digested album of simple loops. this is not al album just for crimbo, this album is for life.
with the wordplay being such a core element to the overall impact of jehsts appeal it is great to hear uk relevance in a proudly uk-centric accent. no pampering to us-of-a markets. hence it is lacking in gangsta crap. standout tracks 'run hard' and 'manimals' both feature usmaan and grab the listener by the spine and keep the moves lean and mean.
seriously fine and superior in every way .. cant wait till i get to digest more of the lyrics and add the extra layer of understanding that is required to get the most out of this quality album.
