escape from the pigeon hole"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>       <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">having provided the vocal highlights on the 2  official <STRONG>dj format <\/STRONG>albums, as well as touring with respected  hip hop crews such as <STRONG>jurassic 5<\/STRONG> and <STRONG>ugly  duckling<\/STRONG>, then i guess its no wonder that this first proper solo artist  release on the ever impressive <EM>antidote records <\/EM>imprint, is one that  dips deep into the contacts books for the beat providers.<\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">i don&#8217;t have a full&nbsp;track by track&nbsp;break  down, but the press release advises the following folks give their  samples-n-loops to various chunks of the album : <STRONG>dj format<\/STRONG>,  <EM>einstein<\/EM> (<STRONG>ugly duckling<\/STRONG>), <STRONG>cut  chemist<\/STRONG>, and his old mate <STRONG>dj fase<\/STRONG>.<\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">in other words, a lot of this album consists of  authentic old school funky sample heavy, scratchy vinyl noises, and a liberal  dose of found vocals,&nbsp;all topped off with abdominals wonderfully clear,  non-thug-centric stories and a lot of happy sunshine smiles.<\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">tracks such as the honest open heart surgery of  <EM>open relationship&nbsp;<\/EM>where,<EM> <\/EM>set to a low and easy groove,  the listener is given a fresh insight into the world of the <EM>on tour and  in&nbsp;need of a shag<\/EM>&nbsp;mindset, making one actually like story teller.  <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">a rare treat for a hip hop album.<\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">other highlights include the naughty word extremes  of <EM>radio friendly, <\/EM>during which we are told exactly what abdominal does  and doesn&#8217;t <EM>give a fuck about, <\/EM>or the the <EM>olympic gold medal for  the longest breathe award <\/EM>track that is <EM>breathe later <\/EM>(its gotta  be editted !), the scratched up excellence of the home town,  toronto,&nbsp;namechecking <EM>t.ode.<\/EM><\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">so, despite the album title,  <STRONG>abdominal<\/STRONG> doesn&#8217;t stray too far from his well established  blueprint, there are no sidesteps into grime, no dips into freeform jazz, or  anything other than what you&#8217;d actually expect from someone with a history as  solid as his, which i reckon is a perfectly fine stance. <\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">in other words, having worked the scene,  <STRONG>abdominal<\/STRONG> plays to his audience with what they know and love,  and i&#8217;m not complaining one iota.<\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><EM>more detail : <\/EM><A href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/abdominal\">here<\/A><\/FONT><\/DIV><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>having provided the vocal highlights on the 2 official dj format albums, as well as touring with respected hip hop crews such as jurassic 5 and ugly duckling, then i guess its no wonder that this first proper solo artist release on the ever impressive antidote records imprint, is one that dips deep into the [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-538","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-album-reviews"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/538","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=538"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/538\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=538"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=538"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=538"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
