{"id":481,"date":"2007-03-16T15:30:06","date_gmt":"2007-03-16T14:30:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/?p=481"},"modified":"2007-03-16T15:30:06","modified_gmt":"2007-03-16T14:30:06","slug":"joakim-lonely-hearts-ep","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/?p=481","title":{"rendered":"joakim &#8211; lonely hearts ep"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>       <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">minimal techno hero <STRONG>joakim<\/STRONG>  recently released an album called, <EM>monsters and silly  songs.<\/EM><\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">the cover artwork&nbsp;for which was mad and scary  and very eye catching.<\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">i have yet to hear the album, but having heard this  rather wonderful simple synth pop song, i have to say i am rather keen to do so  now. <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">the 3 minute radio edit is very easily the  one meant to pull in the punters as the chorus and hooks are sharply focussed.  <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">with a sad melancholic atmosphere, and the use of  the word <EM>lonely <\/EM>throughout, then the listener cannot help but sucked  into the moody grey 80s pop ambience.<\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">alongside the radio edit, is an old school dub  version, which for once, is exactly that, not a purely&nbsp;instrumental take,  but one that strips off the vocals (other than a few cut up snippets here and  there giving the song an almost <STRONG>sputnik<\/STRONG>-esque feel), and adds  plenty of reverb and echo. making the results a fantastic 4 minutes of dubbed up  madness that would make fans of <STRONG>on-u sound<\/STRONG> records  happy.<\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">then to round off the ep, there is the <EM>loving  hand remix<\/EM> by <STRONG>dfa <\/STRONG>associate <EM>tim goldsworthy <\/EM>&#8211; all  9 minutes of it. <\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">as is often the <STRONG>dfa <\/STRONG>way, things  start off with a lovely slice of acid house sqiggles that bear little relation  to the source track, these acid noises&nbsp;are then slowly supplemented by the  addition of a solid-as-a-rock drum and bass foundation, things are then built up  and up into an almighty funked up monster, after which at about 3 minutes, the  track is once again stripped right back to just the beat,&nbsp;undercurrent  pulsations of machines, and&nbsp;down tuned dismembered vocal parts&nbsp;adding  an element of creepiness to the proceedings. <\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">the results are truly glorious.<\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><EM>more detail<\/EM> : <A href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/jimibazzouka\">here<\/A><\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><EM>video<\/EM> : <A href=\"http:\/\/vids.myspace.com\/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&amp;videoid=2012260571\">here<\/A><\/FONT><\/DIV><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>minimal techno hero joakim recently released an album called, monsters and silly songs. the cover artwork&nbsp;for which was mad and scary and very eye catching. i have yet to hear the album, but having heard this rather wonderful simple synth pop song, i have to say i am rather keen to do so now. the [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4,6],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-481","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-singles-reviews","category-videos"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/481","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=481"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/481\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=481"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=481"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=481"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
