{"id":334,"date":"2006-10-27T19:30:06","date_gmt":"2006-10-27T18:30:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/?p=334"},"modified":"2006-12-06T22:09:21","modified_gmt":"2006-12-06T21:09:21","slug":"subtle-for-hero-for-fool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/?p=334","title":{"rendered":"subtle &#8211; for hero for fool"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>       <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">second album proper from this ongoing  <STRONG>anticon<\/STRONG> collective. which follows on quickly from their recent  (and brilliant) cd\/dvd set, <EM>wishingbone<\/EM>. as reviewed <A href=\"http:\/\/www.ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/dance\/subtle_wishingbone.html\">here<\/A>.  <\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">as before, the basis of the music is hop hop beats  and deft lyrical wordplay.&nbsp;<\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">though it should be noted, that this is a style of  hip hop like no-one else makes, and here&#8217;s the reason why : <\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><EM>dax pierson &#8211; throat,  harmonica<\/EM><\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><EM>alexander kort &#8211; electric and acoustics, cello  and bass<\/EM><\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><EM>jardan dalrymple &#8211; drums, guitar, synth,  throat<\/EM><\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><EM>jeffrey jel iogan &#8211; drum  machine<\/EM><\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><EM>marty kaianf donvers &#8211; woodwind,  synth<\/EM><\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><EM>adam doseone drucker, words, throat,  treatments, art<\/EM><\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">the band is a collective all manner of strange  noise making folks. not your usual 2 decks and a microphone, nor  guitar\/bass\/drum\/keyboard band set up, i mean apart from orchestrated extras how  many hip hop bands utilise cellos !<\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">if you have heard anything from the anticon setup  then the strangeness on offer will not come as a major surprise. there is the  same use of off the wall sonic tricks and treatments, the same helium styled  speed vocals and the same overall atmosphere of wonder and  uniqueness.<\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">with the future of the band in a state of concern  following a serious bus accident last year, it&#8217;s great to hear the band give it  their all and be unified in their creation for such a brilliant, and for once  for the anticon mindset, consistently listenable,&nbsp;album. <\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">where this is most evident is on the most  straightforward rock-rap track, <EM>nomanisisland <\/EM>that has the funkiest  rumble bass and chopped up guitars with relatively straight up rap  vocals.<\/FONT><\/DIV> <DIV><FONT face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">an mtv-styled crossover hit ?
