{"id":1380,"date":"2010-02-04T19:54:09","date_gmt":"2010-02-04T19:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1380"},"modified":"2010-02-04T19:57:48","modified_gmt":"2010-02-04T19:57:48","slug":"the-crackdown-project-minimix-billie-ray-martin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/ireallylovemusic.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1380","title":{"rendered":"the crackdown project minimix : billie ray martin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>who would have ever thought that old <strong>cabaret voltaire<\/strong> material would end up as the foundation of a fine 17 min mix of throbbing electronic disco in 2010?<\/p>\n<p>while most people of a certain age prefer the darker more harder edge era of the varied <strong>cabaret voltaire<\/strong> output, i didn&#8217;t catch up with them until the life changing, commercial crossover toe dipping 12&#8243;, <font color=\"#008080\">sensoria<\/font>.<\/p>\n<p>subsequently upon hearing the 12&#8243; literally hundreds of times following its purchase, i started digging deeper into their history.<\/p>\n<p>and to cut a long story short, i have to say, their <u>some bizarre\/virgin records<\/u> releases, ( from the <font color=\"#008080\">crackdown<\/font> single and album through to <font color=\"#008080\">i want you<\/font>, and its associated album, <font color=\"#008080\">the covenant, the sword and the arm of the lord<\/font>)&#160; are still the ones that get the most airplay.<\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#008080\">the crackdown<\/font> album from which these covers have been lifted was a perfect cold slab of disturbing monotonic electro-funk that stands up 20 years on from its release, and never fails to send shivers up my spine when its given a spin<\/p>\n<p>so, to hear two of the albums highlights, <font color=\"#008080\">just fascination<\/font> and <font color=\"#008080\">crackdown<\/font>, redone in such a fashion is a bit of a head fuck.<\/p>\n<p>but a hugely enjoyable head fuck, with billie ray martin (<strong>electribe 101<\/strong>) playing the electro ice queen to perfection over the top of various flavours of bleeps and bumps.<\/p>\n<p>oh, and the more observant of you may pick up on the fact that stephen mallinder himself has added backing vocals to the proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p><object height=\"81\" width=\"100%\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/player.soundcloud.com\/player.swf?url=http%3A%2F%2Fsoundcloud.com%2Fbillie-ray-martin%2Fthe-crackdown-project-minimix&amp;\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed allowscriptaccess=\"always\" height=\"81\" src=\"http:\/\/player.soundcloud.com\/player.swf?url=http%3A%2F%2Fsoundcloud.com%2Fbillie-ray-martin%2Fthe-crackdown-project-minimix&amp;\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"100%\"><\/embed><\/object><span><a href=\"http:\/\/soundcloud.com\/billie-ray-martin\/the-crackdown-project-minimix\">the crackdown project minimix<\/a> by <a href=\"http:\/\/soundcloud.com\/billie-ray-martin\">billie ray martin<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p><u>more detail<\/u> : <a href=\"http:\/\/soundcloud.com\/billie-ray-martin\/the-crackdown-project-minimix\">here<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>who would have ever thought that old cabaret voltaire material would end up as the foundation of a fine 17 min mix of throbbing electronic disco in 2010?
