ahh brainlove records.

one of those labels that while you may not be 100% convinced everything they release is of worth, i happen to strongly believe that it is essential that the labels like brainlove exist.

the passion for lo-fi diy music is paramount, and many of the acts on this compilation may never get any further than their one appearance on this eclectic, budget friendly compilation, but it matters not, for they will be able to tell their grandchildren with full hearted pride :

‘ i featured on a brainlove compilation’.

naturally the line up consists of all sorts of kaotic pop.

from the cheap drum machines, to entry level synth experimentation , via spooky drones, acoustic meanderings and other hidden away corners of music you previously had no idea about.

highlights are many :

the dark electro-pop of mat riviere, the eccentricities of napoleon iiird, the layered creations of stairs to korea, the new order/pet shop boys happy shiny electro of a scholar & a physician, the surreal ambience of kippi kaninus, to the casio soundtracked kitchen dramas of pagan wanderer lu and kid carpet.

lowlights are few and far between.

27 tracks of mad-n-bad, happy-n-sad, slow-n-fast pop music.

tracklisting :

1. mat riviere – fyh* all for a fiver.

how can you resist.
