<p>ok, i realise the blog has been quiet of late.</p>
<div></div>
<div>the reasons are simple &#8211; i have been busy : parenting + work + hangover + emo chaos</div>
<div></div>
<div>life takes its toll.</div>
<div></div>
<div>however, in this modern world of downloads vs old school f*ckers like me, i like to be able to prove that the silver disc still has its place.</div>
<div></div>
<div>so, here is an example of how far a wallet busting £10 went this week :</div>
<div></div>
<div>- <strong>emerson, lake &amp; palmer</strong> &#8211; s/t (remastered edition)</div>
<div></div>
<div>- <strong>emereson, lake and palmer</strong> &#8211; tarkus (remastered edition)</div>
<div></div>
<div>- <strong>nina simone</strong> &#8211; silk &amp; soul (remastered legacy edition)</div>
<div></div>
<div>- <strong>hollie cook</strong> &#8211; hollie cook (2011 cd produced by prince fatty)</div>
<div></div>
<div>- <strong>the key</strong> &#8211; fit me in ( rev-ola reissue of late 1970s lost classic)</div>
<div></div>
<div>the result is a power house of brilliance and unexpected sonics.</div>
<div></div>
<div>from prog excess, to soul/jazz perfection, via laid back old school reggae and 70s yacht rock.</div>
<div></div>
<div>ok, i know all this is available via your various streaming sites, but the fact is, i love the randomness of the search.</div>
<div>i love the discovery.</div>
<div>i love the tactile nature of the hunt.</div>
<div>i love the unexpected treats</div>
<div></div>
<div>(i have been wanting to hear the <strong>hollie cook</strong> album since its release, but have never seen it in the racks,. and as for elp, well, i just knew at some point i would fall under their spell at some point)</div>
<div></div>
<div>as i have said before : f*ck a download.</div>
<div></div>
<div>onwards</div>

<p>at last a new ‘rock’ band with a whole package thing going on.</p>
<p>from the bands name, the sleeve art, the stage show, everything has been planned to perfection.</p>
<p>now, i had read about this lot a while back, but just assumed it would be unlistenable doom with gruff shouty vocals.</p>
<p>instead this is very melodic and extremely listenable, with nods to 60s psych and 70s rock.</p>
<p>love it.</p>

<p>when it comes to machine music, i realise i have a rather shortlist of favourites, but i have yet to be let down by some certain collectives.</p>

<p>having recently released a limited heavy duty 12” ep, <font color="#008080">return ov the bleep</font>, via their own <u>dust science</u> label (sold out now i suspect !), the lads put together a mix of bleep-centric classics and some of their new material.</p>

<p>ok, as they used to say before a certain tv program way back before folks knew there were other tv chanels : </p>
<p>‘and now for something completely different’.</p>
<p>basically, look at your gadget of choice.</p>
<p>today is the 14th of march.</p>
<p>in the uk we would denote this as 14/03.</p>
<p>in the us where things are always a bit different, today is denoted as 03.14.</p>
<p>that in itself is a close approximation of the number known to nerds as <u>pi</u>.</p>
<p>so, here in all its glory, is star of allmusic.com (currently on an enforced hiatus, but tis only a matter of time that they request his services again), pitchfork, the quietus, and ilx of course, is a 45 minute reading of the number pi by the man himself.</p>
<p>for doubters, please think of this as an extension of <strong>john cages</strong> piece of perfection, <font color="#008080">4’33”</font> , or, <strong>scanners</strong> early intrusive phone call releases.</p>
<p>while i have to admit i would never listen to this on a regular basis, neds voice has a strangely hypnotic appeal.</p>
<p>and surely there are folks out there who do the sampling thing and could make a monster remix out if this ? </p>
<p>&#160;</p>

<p>so, there i am following up on an email from a well respected source, loving the logo, and the sublime deep grooves thinking, ‘oh yes, this is new, and one for me to tell people about’ </p>
<p>then i check the stats on the song : over 100k listens.</p>
<p>as is often the case, i’m way behind the curve, so much so that this track has been featured on high profile radio one shows and such like, but it matters not, as this debut track from <strong>london grammar</strong> is really rather lovely with its combination of late night trip hop moods, and sultry vocals.</p>
<p>during the 5th stream, my teenkid walks in the west wing, asks who it is, i tell him, to which he casually responds : </p>
<p>‘oh, these guys are playing at this years <u>camp bestival</u> festival’.</p>
<p>joyous news &#8211; as the ireallylovemusic crew have already got their names on some tix, meaning i now have one more reason to be full of excitement.</p>
<p>in the meantime, if you are not able to track down this slice of pop brilliance on the all too necessary very limited 7”, then i do believe it is now available via itunes.</p>
<p>highly recommended.</p>

<p>having released one of the best albums of last year, <font color="#008080">music for people who hate themselves</font>, <strong>the pre new</strong> kick off their next stage of audio chaos with the release of a “pre mix” album, <font color="#008080">music for homeowners.</font></p>

<p>this revision is out next week via itunes, but here is a rather special sneaky peak behind the curtain to whet your appetite.</p>
<p>featuring sarah cracknell (<strong>saint etienne</strong>) on cold disconnected vocals, the parktown prawn premix is very different to the original with hard industrial electro beats, vocoder excess, and an atmosphere of clinical fear against which sarah insists that her world of ikea sanctioned consumerism makes for ‘a perfect place’.</p>
<p>the result is a creep’d out slice of pop perfection.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>following on from the 2 eps of last year, <strong>patti yang</strong> is gearing up to release her uk released debut album with a stream (and possibly a limited download) of <span style="color: #008080;">i am ready</span>.</p>
<p>while i enjoyed last years material, i have to say she and her cohorts (no details available as yet) have seriously raised their game for this new track.</p>
<p>a foreboding broody 5 minutes of droning brilliance that builds up and envelops the listener in a deliciously dark atmosphere.</p>
<p>the distressed guitars and layered echoed shadowy vocals are unlike anything i have heard by patti before, whether via her goth-electro <strong>flykkiller</strong> sonic experiments with stephen hilon, or her her more pop centric polish released album, <span style="color: #008080;">faith hope and fury</span>.</p>
<p>this dramatic tease is genuinely next level, proving just how far patti is willing to stretch into new unexpected territories, making me anticipate the album all the more.</p>

<p>second post of the year for new music. </p>
<p>must be on a roll.</p>
<p>loving the late night stripped back electro-thump of this collaboration between kate akhurst (australia), and a swedish production team that comprises of hampus nordgren hemlin, oskar sikow engström and markus dextegen.</p>
<p>yes, it’s easy to describe this as a more palatable, less spooked out version of <strong>the knife, </strong>but that doesn’t detract from the fact that this is very very good.</p>
<p>the bands debut ep ‘<font color="#008080">northern lights</font>’ is out via iamsound, and consists of 2 originals, and 2 remixes.</p>
<p><font color="#008080">northern lights <br />in your eyes <br />northern lights (taken by trees &amp; belief remix) <br />northern lights (superhumanoids remix) </font></p>
<p>however, for those of you who are impatient, there is a stream of the b-side, <font color="#008080">in your eyes</font> : <a href="https://soundcloud.com/iamsoundrecords/kate-boy-in-your-eyes">here</a></p>
