adam barringer - from my mind to yours
when i received this with a note advising that it was recorded with two bass guitars i feared the worst type of jazz fusion possible.
instead it takes me back to 94. the year that i discovered environmetal ambient with several fax releases with numerous pete namlook collaborations, where sounds drift, atmospheres are created, and very little else will happen for a long time - somehow in 94 this appealed to me.
so this is 60 odd minutes of bass rumbles with lots of static clicks,space echo and reverb .. and comes with a warning that there is very little in the way of a melody.
first listening on ear plugs actually induced a headache due to the low quality of the earphones and so the bass notes actually distorted badly. but listening again on a proper system a lot more pleasure was provided. and in fact there are parts that have a very pleasant vibe, not always as dark as one might imagine.
admittedly this is not to everyones taste, but i understand that adam is very aware that this is a sonic experiment.
i should mention that the packaging is very special and shows that adam is very involved with the every aspect of his product.
